What is a rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a surgery performed to correct and reconstruct the external structure of the nose, for functional or esthetic reasons. Reshaping the nose enhances the whole facial look, and because of recent improvements in the techniques, offers highly natural and harmonious results.

How does the procedure go?

A rhinoplasty lasts up to 3 hours, and can be performed under either local anesthesia or general anesthesia, depending on the patient’s needs. Basically, it consists in removing the bone and cartilage excess, to reach the desired shape. The removed matter is then carefully and precisely carved, keeping intact all respiratory functions of the nose. The space resulting from the removal, and the skin over it, is then tightened, so that the nose reaches a thinner look.

Recovery

Patients will stay at the clinic for a period of 1 to 3 days after a rhinoplasty for daily post-surgery check ups. After the procedure, moderate pain is to be expected but can be controlled easily. Some precautions, like avoiding to sneeze in the week following the procedure, will have to be taken. Patients most of the time can go back to work a few days after the procedure depending on their area of work. We recommend that patients wait at least 6 weeks to practice intense physical activity again. During the months following the procedure, continuous improvements will be observed.
