Genioplasty

What is Genioplasty (chin surgery)?

Genioplasty is chin plastic surgery. Carried out under general anesthesia, genioplasty can last up to 4 hours. In order to modify it’s shape or form, the chin is remodelled with a prosthesis or using the patient’s bone mass. The prosthesis method is usually preferred by patients, it can be performed as long as the jaw and teeth are well functioning. For aesthetic reasons, the prosthesis method is often paired with a rhinoplasty.

Recovery

Patients will stay at the clinic for a period of 1 to 3 days after a genioplasty for daily post-surgery check ups. After the procedure, moderate pain is to be expected but can be controlled easily. Patients most of the time can go back to work a few days after the porcedure depending on their area of work. We recommend that patients wait at least 6 weeks to practice intense physical activity again. During the months following the procedure, continuous improvements will be observed. A chin strap will also be recommended.
