What is a facelift?

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure performed to improve signs of aging in the facial and neck areas. Wrinkles or fine lines often appear on people having either lost weight, aged, or having specific genetic predispositions. In such cases, a facelift can be a great option, leaving the face with a fresh and rejuvenated look!
Different types of lifting can be performed. The temporal facelift consists in making incisions in the hairline and pulling tissues up and away from the center of the face. During a necklift, the platysma, the muscle running down the chin, is tightened and excess fat and skin are removed for a younger look. In multiple cases, facelifts are performed jointly with a blepharoplasty.

How does the procedure go?

Facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a procedure that can last up to 4 hours, performed under general anesthesia. Techniques vary depending on the specific type of lift, but usually consists in making small incisions around the targeted area, and removing of the excess skin. The remaining skin is then tightened for a more lively and smoother look. For more sustainable results, it’s also common to intervene under the skin to tighten muscles and remove excess fat.

Recovery

Patients will stay at the clinic for a period of 1 to 3 days after the lift, for daily post-surgery check ups. After the procedure, moderate pain is to be expected but can be controlled easily. Patients most of the time can go back to work a few days after the procedure depending on their area of work. We recommend that patients wait at least 6 weeks to practice intense physical activity again. During the months following the procedure, continuous improvements will be observed.
