Gynecomastia is an size increase of the of male breast tissue. The usual masculine chest appearance is replaced by the growth of breasts of various sizes, from small to fully developped. This growth is caused by endocrine disorders, metabolic dysfunction, or the natural decline in testosterone production. The excessive growth of the male mammary gland can also cause psychological issues, such as the loss of self-confidence, or social discomfort. This problem can be caused by a precocious release of oestrogen, while testosterone levels are lower.
Today, this condition can easily be rectified. The surgeon first examines the patient to determine if he’s elligible for this type of surgery, and which technique will be suited to his specific situation. The operation, lasting an average of two hours, is performed under general anaesthesia.
A post-surgical compression garment must be worn after the surgery. After the procedure, moderate pain is to be expected but can be controlled easily. Patients most of the time can go back to work a few days after the procedure depending on their area of work. We recommend that patients wait at least 6 weeks to practice intense physical activity again. During the months following the procedure, continuous improvements will be observed.
